Poetry: Down days/Lockdown 3.0

I found this poem the other day whilst looking through my Apple Notes. I wrote this back in the 3rd UK lockdown when I was feeling down. I write poetry to help me with my inner thoughts and to try and make sense of this world. It’s interesting to look back at past writing to see how much things have changed, and in some cases how little they have too. I hope you enjoy it.

I lay down

Just before midnight

My eyes hurts when I close them

My joints hurt.

As I check my phone for the next pandemic instalment

I inhale deeply and am met with the faint smell of my floral perfume.

Led down on my fold-out Futon bed

It feels slightly uncomfortable but at the same time comforting.

Another day tomorrow

Another day in lockdown

Lockdown 3.0 to be precise.

What will tomorrow bring?

Depression?

Loneliness?

Boredom?

Nostalgia?

Or should I be looking a little deeper?

Tomorrow may bring

Another day of

Comfort

Health

Love

And another chance.

Another chance to look for some magic in the moment

Another chance to fully embrace quality time with my daughter

Who is growing so quickly.

Another chance to choose my day and my perception of it

And another chance to choose gratitude.
